A foyer chandelier can be a real challenge to replace.

There was a “bright brass” chandelier in the 2-story foyer of a beautiful house I recently worked on. Like the other 80s-era fixtures, it needed to be replaced. But unlike the other fixtures, this one was 20 feet off the ground. An extension ladder will only put you high up against a wall, but the fixture was in the middle of the ceiling, 6 or more feet from any wall.

The fixture is in the middle of the room and 20 feet off the ground.

So to safely reach that high, you need a 14-foot step ladder. I don’t own anything that big: they’re expensive and hard to store. But there was a Home Depot with a rental department near the house I was working at, and so I was able to rent the ladder and replace the fixture. The homeowners love it, and since it was the hardest fixture to replace, it was the last. They were so delighted to finally have everything done!
